Job description

Operates and services trucks and light motorized equipment; performs maintenance work on equipment. Also performs manual work in public facilities.

Responsibilities include:

1. Driving light trucks to haul supplies and materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, and caliche;
2. Operating tractors, sweepers, mowers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and other machines of comparable size and complexity;
3. Maintaining and servicing equipment, machines, and trucks;
4. Assisting with activities such as mowing, edging grass, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems, and removing litter and debris;
5. Repairing damaged fences;
6. Caring for and maintaining flower beds and installing plant material;
7. Directing trucks at the city landfill, weighing trucks, collecting landfill charges, and keeping records;
8. Assisting in funeral preparations;
9. Performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of the tenth grade plus six months to one year of experience in operation and maintenance of light motorized equipment, or any relevant combination of education and experience.

Physical exam required. Valid current driver’s license.

Knowledge of:

• Operation and maintenance of motorized equipment used in construction or maintenance activities.

Abilities:

• Follow oral and written instructions;
• Perform maintenance on light equipment;
• Work cooperatively with others;
• Operate a spray gun and metal grinder;
• Communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
