Job summary

The City of Menasha is seeking an entry-level Public Works worker to operate trucks and equipment, assist with street and utility maintenance, and help keep our city running year-round. This full-time role requires a high school diploma and at least one year of related maintenance experience.

Ideal candidates will be able to work Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:00pm, and reside within twenty miles of Menasha. CDL endorsement is required, with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1+ year of Street, Parks, or Facilities maintenance experience.
  • Must reside within 20 miles of the City of Menasha.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in constructing, repairing, and maintaining streets, signs, sidewalks, culverts, drainage ditches, and sewers.
  • Assist with utility excavations and maintenance on storm and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Operate public works light equipment as needed.
  • Perform snow removal and apply salt on roads.
  • Assist with pavement markings and signage installation.
  • Perform sanitation functions and related tasks.
  • Maintain grounds, facilities, and landscapes including mowing and pruning.
  • Support Parks Department with grounds and facilities maintenance.

Job description

Join our crew at the City's newly built Public Works facility!

This full-time, entry-level role is perfect for hardworking, hands-on individuals. You'll operate trucks and equipment, help maintain streets, and take pride in keeping our city running.

Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm, Year Round
  • Assist in constructing, repairing, and maintaining streets and street signs, sidewalks, culverts, drainage ditches, and storm and sanitary sewers.
  • Assist with utility excavations, installations, repairs and maintenance on storm and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Occasionally operate equipment and machines incidental to public works, parks, and facilities maintenance activities.
  • Perform snow removal activities, including operation of equipment used in plowing and salting activities.
  • Assist with pavement marking, including painting street lane markings, cross walks, etc.
  • Perform sanitation functions and related work as needed.
  • Cut and collect weeds, brush, etc.
  • Assist with maintaining trees, flowers, and shrubs by planting, pruning, weeding, irrigating, and spraying.
  • Assist in maintaining grounds and facilities such as mowing, trimming, weeding, spraying, and litter pickup, vandalism removal, grooming and lining athletic fields.
  • Assist in constructing, repairing, and maintaining facilities to include minor plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, tasks.
  • May assist the Parks Department with various tasks related to grounds and facilities maintenance.
  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
  • Report for work as scheduled and as required for emergencies.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one or more years of Street, Parks, or Facilities type of maintenance work experience and/or refuse and recycling collection experience within the past five years; preferred. Must also have the ability to provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Current working knowledge in the methods, materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in public works, facilities, parks and/or landscaping construction and maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge and experience with occupational hazards and safe work practices.
  • Ability to operate various types of public works light equipment.
  • Current and demonstrated abilityto understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Current and demonstrated ability to perform manual labor for extended periods and to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to get along well and coordinate with others.
  • Must reside within twenty (20) miles of the jurisdictional boundary of the City of Menasha.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid Wisconsin Class B, C and D Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsement, and good driving record which meets the legal and medical requirements of the CDL.
