Assists as work crew member in highway maintenance; digs ditches, rakes asphalt, cuts brush, performs roadside mowing, removes asphalt and debris, etc.; may operate air hammer, pick, chainsaw, weedeater, chipper, etc.; performs other miscellaneous laborer duties; picks up litter; picks up dead animals from right of way.

Assists as work crew member in highway maintenance; digs ditches, rakes asphalt, cuts brush, performs roadside mowing, removes asphalt and debris, etc.; may operate air hammer, pick, chainsaw, weedeater, chipper, etc.; performs other miscellaneous laborer duties; picks up litter; picks up dead animals from right of way.
Operates various motorized equipment for road maintenance (small roller, tractor, tandem dump trucks, snow plow, pickup, etc.); hauls equipment and workers; picks up, delivers material for road maintenance and construction (sand, gravel, asphalt, salt).
Required to be on-call to plow and/or spread salt for snow and ice control.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
CDL (Commercial Driver License) required. New hires will have the opportunity to obtain their CDL during the initial 180-day probationary period.
Examples of Duties
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers; read and write simple sentences; 100 hours training in operation of heavy equipment or 1 month experience; valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (Type A) must be obtained during probationary period.

All Positions At The Franklin County Engineer's Office Are Part Of The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). Each Employee Contributes 10% Of Their Gross Wages And The Engineer's Office Contributes 14%. More Information Can Be Found At

Vacation leave is provided to all non-seasonal employees based on their years of service.
Sick leave is provided to all non-seasonal employees, with full-time employees earning approximately 15 days per year.
Full-time, non-seasonal employees receive 40 hours of Personal leave each year that must be used during the year or forfeited.
The County provides 11 paid Holidays per year.
The Franklin County Engineer's Office provides uniforms based on the position. As needed, steel-toed boots are also provided.
