A leading governmental agency is seeking a heavy equipment operator to manage maintenance tasks for County roads and facilities. The role involves operating heavy machinery, performing landscaping duties, and ensuring the safe transportation of materials. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or G.E.D., be able to fulfill physical demands, and will be eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus.

Operates heavy equipment and performs a variety of routine manual labor tasks to facilitate the maintenance and upkeep of County roads; performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work demands constant physical effort. For example, handling moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials over 60 pounds and walking or standing 60%+ of the time.
Work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, or machines. Employees may be required to use protective gear such as boots and gloves; may require working in adverse weather conditions.
1. Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Government policies and procedures;
2. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and various heavy equipment;
3. Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating equipment as well as for ensuring public safety;
4. Basic knowledge of machinery and vehicle maintenance;
