Job summary

Cable Services Company Inc in Scranton, PA, is seeking a skilled equipment operator to support underground utility installation projects. You will load, transport, and operate hydraulic excavation equipment, inspect gear daily, and help place conduits, bore paths, and utilities according to blueprints.

This role requires the ability to read construction prints, travel to sites, lift up to 50-80 pounds, and work 5-7 days a week in varying weather.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload equipment in a secure, damage-free manner.
  • Transport tools, materials, and equipment safely.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections before starting work.
  • Operate hydraulic excavation equipment to place underground utilities.
  • Locate existing utilities and verify them per blueprints.
  • Dig pits, trenches, or potholes and restore disturbed areas.
  • Complete required documentation (timesheets, logs, reports).
  • Adhere to safety policies and company procedures.
  • Travel to project sites as needed.

This position performs tasks required for the operation of hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction/upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Load and unload equipment in a manner that is secure and damage-free

Transport associated tools, materials, and/or equipment safely

Complete a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work

In conjunction with the crew, operate the equipment to assist in placing underground utilities

Operate equipment in accordance with company and industry standards

Responsible for locating existing underground utilities and verifying them according to blueprints

Identify utilities in the construction area and bore path

Connect/stub-up conduit and wire, as required

Dig pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities

Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite

Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment (i.e., timesheet, vehicle log, expense report)

Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner

Perform other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans, and specifications

Knowledge of utility depths and placements

Possess general knowledge of construction practices

Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels

Ability to work in trenches, excavations, and manholes

Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks

Ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environment

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds

Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Able to work 5-7 days a week, 10+ hours a day when necessary

Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions

Preferred Education and Experience

One year of experience operating a directional bore drill

Previous rock boring experience

One year of Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, and Dozer experience

Class A CDL

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must be willing and able to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projects

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis

Pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background screen

Complete and pass a DOT Physical

Physical Demands This position typically requires balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and talking.

Working Conditions The employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions as they will be driving in all types of conditions.

Travel This position may require travel, which could include traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
