Job description

Join to apply for the Equipment Operator - Henderson Maintenance role at Texas Department of Transportation.

This position involves performing complex transportation maintenance work by operating heavy equipment such as tractor-trailer haul trucks, motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, cranes, herbicide trucks, asphalt paving machines, and dump trucks. Employees at this level work independently on assignments, with unusual issues referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:
  • Operate various types of complex heavy equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs.
  • Relocate equipment using tractor-trailer haul trucks, including loading and securing.
  • Perform transportation maintenance and roadway repairs.
  • Potentially serve as a work crew project lead and train other employees.
  • Operate additional heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, draglines, shovels, and paint stripers.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: No education required.

Experience: At least 1 year in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation. College education or technical training may substitute for experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License at time of application.
Competencies:
  • Follow instructions and industry safety standards.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain safe working relationships.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Work indoors and outdoors, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, stooping, reaching, walking, and operating machinery.
Conditions of Employment:

Pre-employment physical, drug testing, and ability to respond to emergency calls within 45 minutes are required.
