Job summary

The City of Hattiesburg is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department. You will be responsible for operating various construction maintenance equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and supervising laborers when necessary. A high school diploma and a minimum of two years of experience is desired.

Position: Equipment Operator

Department: Health

Division: Public Works Rate of Pay: $14.00/hr

Nature of Work:

Skilled work in the operation of light and heavy-duty construction maintenance equipment. Operator is responsible for daily preventive maintenance of equipment. Assignments are usually received in the form of orders to accomplish a specific task. Supervision may be exercised over a small group of laborers.

Examples of Work:

· Operation of equipment such as dump trucks, back-hoes, dozers, etc. for repairs and construction.

· Operates a front-end loader in loading asphalt, gravel, sand, rock slag slurry and similar materials onto trucks.

· Performs related work as required.

Desirable Qualifications:

High school diploma or G.E.D. Minimum of 2 years of experience is desired. Must have and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.
