Job description

Parker Towing Company operates Machine Shops, Towboats, and Ports/Terminals out of Mobile, Alabama. Qualified applicants must be motivated to work a flexible schedule, eager to work with a multitude of cargos, be prepared to serve our customers in a variety of projects and accept variances in work schedule to include occasional weekends and holidays.

Motivated candidates will have the opportunity to progress within the organization and potentially qualify for differing positions in Operations and Management based upon skill sets and aptitude.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operating Skid Steers, Cranes, Other Forklifts and Equipment
  • Assist loading/unloading barges
  • Assist with cleaning barges
  • Assist crane operators
  • Loads and unloads inbound/outbound trailers. Ensures all scanning completed correctly. Helps train dock employees on new procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the facility
  • Performs material moves with associated transactions as required by the customer
  • Works at a continuous fast pace
  • Performs the assigned tasks as directed to include the physical handling of materials within associated customer needs
  • Completes assignments safely within the allotted time
  • Participates in work group and other team activities for the purpose of self improvement and improving port operations and related business functions

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Abides by all company safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for performing work assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner
  • Operates forklift and manual pallet jack
  • Completes required training as scheduled

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must live within 50 miles of Mobile, AL
  • One (1) year or more related shipping /receiving or warehouse preferred
  • Forklift and crane certification is a plus
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to transact system information in a productive manner
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices
