Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a field maintenance worker to apply herbicides and insecticides along drainage channels and road rights of way, perform repairs to signs and fences, and complete concrete work. The role includes mowing and reporting chemical usage, with readiness to assist in emergency management during local disasters.

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, at least one year of related experience, a valid Texas driver's license, and the ability to follow

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of related experience and ability to operate required equipment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving skills.
  • Herbicide and insecticide certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work within time constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Sprays herbicide and insecticide along drainage channels and road easements.
  • Repairs signs, fences and watergates; performs concrete work.
  • Patches potholes and grades drainage channels and elevations.
  • Mows county drainage channels, ditches and road easements.
  • Prepares and submits reports regarding chemical usage.
  • Sprays and spreads seeds and fertilizer along drainage channels and easements.
  • Performs shop duties and other duties as necessary.
  • Accountable for all equipment and uniforms issued.
  • Participates in emergency management duties during local disasters.

  • Sprays herbicide and insecticide chemicals along drainage channels, ditches and road easements.
  • Repairs signs, fences and watergates; performs concrete work.
  • Patches pot holes and grades drainage channels and elevations.
  • Mows county drainage channels, ditches and road easements.
  • Prepares and submits reports regarding chemical usage.
  • Sprays and spreads seeds and fertilizer along drainage channels and easements.

  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • One year of job related experience; ability to operate required equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License. Good driving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills along with the ability to deal effectively with other employees, follow instructions and complete assignments within time constraints.
  • Herbicide and Insecticide Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
SALARY RANGE

$18.31 - $22.89 hourly based on qualifications
