Job summary

Alter Trading Corporation is seeking an Equipment Operator in Saint Paul, MN, to load and offload inbound/outbound materials and inspect loads for grading. The role involves operating forklifts, skid steers, loaders and excavators while ensuring safe throughput and professionalism with drivers and suppliers.

You will coordinate with yard staff and rail crews, perform inspections, and adhere to safety/environmental protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Prior experience operating equipment including forklift, tractor, skid steer, front end loader or excavator is required.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential.
• A history of reliable attendance is a must.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload and sort ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
• Inspect inbound and outbound loads for compliance and accurate grading.
• Deliver courteous and professional experience to all drivers and suppliers.
• Collaborate with other operators and scale staff to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.
• Conduct inspections for non-conforming items (e.g., mercury switches, ballasts, sealed containers).
• Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with rail crew to switch and weigh inbound/outbound rail cars.
• Adhere to all safety and environmental protocols and wear PPE.
• Complete and maintain inspections, paperwork and documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
