Job summary

Montgomery County in Kansas is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate light equipment for rock, asphalt, and dirt placement on roads and bridges.

You will read instructions, manage tasks, supervise traffic as needed, and perform routine maintenance on tractors, loaders, and mowers, contributing to safe, durable roadways.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Cleans road surfaces and applies and rakes patching material.
• Operates an engine-powered broom to clean road surfaces.
• Assists with traffic control.
• Loads and unloads equipment and material from trucks.
• Operates a wheel loader to load and unload trucks.
• Measures distances with a tape measure or similar device.
• Maintains signs, guardrails, box culverts, and bridges.
• Works with asphalt and chip and seal crews as necessary.
• Fastens attachments to equipment.
• Secures equipment to trailers for safe transport.
• Operates chainsaw to remove trees from right-of-way.
• Uses hand tools for maintaining right-of-way.
• Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment.
• Adheres to all laws and ordinances.
• Performs other duties and complies with policies.

Job Purpose and Objectives:

Responsible for operating all types of light equipment used in the placement of rock, asphalt, and dirt in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges for Montgomery County.

Position Requirements:

1. High school diploma or other equivalent

2. One year of related experience and/or training

3. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Certifications / Licenses:

1. Class C Driver's License

2. Ability to obtain a Class B CDL or a Class A CDL within one year of hire
