Job summary

San Antonio Water System is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform labor duties and operate a range of equipment for the water distribution and wastewater system. The role includes transporting, loading, and assisting with traffic control and site set-up.

You must have a High School Diploma or GED, six months of equipment operation experience, and a valid Texas Class A CDL. The position offers an automatic progression to Senior Equipment Operator after five years of continuous service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Six months’ experience operating equipment in construction, water, or wastewater settings.
• Pass position-specific physical testing.
• Valid Texas Class A CDL is required.
• Ability to report to work on time and maintain attendance.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains medium to heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and excavators.
• Excavates and backfills trenches to complete repairs.
• Transports equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites.
• Loads and unloads materials from trucks.
• Stocks vehicles with needed equipment and materials.
• Cleans, organizes and maintains facilities, tools and equipment.
• Observes and promotes established safety procedures.
• Interprets drawings, schematics, and construction plans.
• Assists with setting up work zone barricades and signs for traffic control.
• Inspects equipment and reports mechanical concerns/issues.
