Job summary

TMS International is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Russellville, KY team. You will operate forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, and excavators to transport materials and support production in a steel mill environment.

You will work 12-hour shifts, with rotation across day and night windows, and be responsible for equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and accurate logging of usage and maintenance activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a steel mill or industrial setting.
• Ability to read and interpret safety manuals, blueprints, and other technical documents.
• Strong safety mindset and compliance with manufacturing standards.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
• Must work in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, and excavators, within the steel mill.
• Transport materials such as scrap metal, slag, and steel products to appropriate areas.
• Ensure all machines and equipment are properly maintained and report any malfunctions.
• Assist with loading and unloading raw materials into production areas.
• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Monitor and adjust equipment settings to maintain smooth production processes.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as lubricating and cleaning equipment.
• Collaborate with mill supervisors, maintenance teams, and safety personnel to address issues.
• Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage and maintenance activities.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Russellville, KY. The ideal candidate will operate heavy machinery to transport raw materials, assist in production, and ensure that all equipment functions properly. The operator will work closely with other team members to maintain safe and efficient operations throughout the steel manufacturing process.

Schedule: 12 hour shifts | Monday - Friday | 6:45am-7:15pm or 7:15pm-6:45am

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, and excavators, within the steel mill.
