Maintain state roadway systems by operating vehicles and equipment, performing minor repairs, and assisting in construction and maintenance activities.

Work Location

Responsibilities
  • Operate various equipment including loaders, graders, trucks, and vacuum trucks for bridge and roadway maintenance.
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in bridge and roadway repairs, tree trimming, masonry, painting, and sign erection.
  • Perform Temporary Traffic Control and assist with crew activity reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safety rules, mathematical calculations.
  • Skilled in operating hand and power tools, and maintaining equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, maintain highways, communicate effectively, and work outdoors in various conditions.
Other Requirements
  • Respond to emergencies; possess a valid Class B CDL; obtain Temporary Traffic Control certification within one year.
  • Work with or around inmates.
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of experience operating small/medium equipment; valid Class B CDL required at hire; within 10 months, obtain a CDL with air brakes.
Additional Information

Applicants must have a clean driving record and register with FMCSA’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. A mandatory drug screening will be performed. The department covers initial CDL training costs; employees must repay costs if they leave within two years of obtaining their CDL.
