Job description

What we need:

We are seeking energetic, passionate individuals who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role as an Equipment Operator 4 within the Division of Forestry. This position is based at Tar Hollow State Forest in Vinton County. The address is 50874 Clark Hollow Rd., Londonderry, OH 45647. Please note: this position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License with no restrictions.

What you will do:

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment for construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Support wildlife efforts, including forest fire line construction, trails, culverts, roads, and bridges.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment, buildings, and grounds.
  • Serve as a lead worker in equipment operation.
  • Maintain and repair forest roads, hiking and bridle trails, a primitive horse camp, bridges, and culverts.
  • Starting hourly pay of $21.63 with potential increases over 4.5 years, up to $24.66/hr.

Minimum qualifications include formal education in arithmetic (fractions, decimals, percentages), proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, and either:

  • 6 months of training or experience in operating heavy construction equipment (e.g., crawler, cranes, backhoe, dozer, gradall, excavator) along with safety practices; or
  • Equivalent qualifications as noted above.

For positions in the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry Wildfire Program only, successful completion of the Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S-130/S-190) is required.
