Join us for the Equipment Operator 4-20097654 role at Ohio Department of Natural Resources

We are seeking energetic, passionate individuals who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role as an Equipment Operator 4 within the Division of Forestry. The position is headquartered at Tar Hollow State Forest, located in Vinton County at 50874 Clark Hollow Rd., Londonderry, OH 45647. Please note: This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License with no restrictions.

What You Will Do
  • Operate heavy motorized equipment for construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Support wildlife activities such as forest fire line construction, trail, culvert, road, and bridge work.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment, buildings, and grounds.
  • Lead equipment operation tasks as a lead worker.
  • Maintain and repair paved and gravel forest roads, trails, bridges, and culverts.
  • Starting hourly pay is $21.63, with multiple increases over 4.5 years, reaching $24.66/hr.
Minimum Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic (fractions, decimals, percentages), ability to read, write, and speak common English, and either six months of training or experience in operating heavy construction equipment (e.g., crawler, crane, backhoe, dozer, gradall, excavator) with related safety practices. A valid commercial driver’s license is required. For positions in the Wildfire Program, successful completion of the Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S-130/S-190) is also required.

Alternatively, candidates may possess the equivalent of the minimum qualifications noted above.
