Job description

Working Title: Equipment Operator CDL

Job Summary: Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled work in operating a limited variety of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment in the maintenance of City roads, right of ways, and all other city properties.
Reports To: Assistant Director of Streets

Supervises: N/A

Examples of Duties

Examples of Work: {Illustrative Only}

• Operates any of the following types of equipment: boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment, used to maintain and repair right of ways and beautify City property.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and performs light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and all other city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on medium equipment; ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions; ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees; ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather.

Acceptable Training and Experiences:

• High school diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience operating related equipment.

Certificates and/or Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License and must have the ability to obtain a Class (A) Commercial Driver's License within the first (6) months of employment.
