Job summary

Camden County Board of Commissioners is seeking an Equipment Operator for Public Works to operate county equipment in support of construction and maintenance projects. The role includes mowing, ditch work, and park grounds upkeep across county parks and rights of way.

The position requires knowledge of safety policies and the ability to perform preventive maintenance, with duties extending to signs, traffic control, and basic repairs as needed. Outdoor work in varied weather is expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate zero-turn mowers and tractors with attachments to mow grass and prep sports fields.
• Maintain park grounds, clear ditches, install infrastructure and perform related tasks.
• Use hand and power tools to clear land, remove brush and perform routine maintenance.
• Patch potholes and install/maintain road, traffic and park signs; assist in traffic control.
• Grease and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and support operations.

Equipment Operator Public Works Non Exempt Minimum Pay 1707 per hour

This position operates assigned equipment in support of Public Works construction and maintenance projects including Roads & Bridges ROW Mowing and Parks Maintenance

MAJOR DUTIES

Operates a zero turn mower or tractor with attachments to mow grass remove brush and prep sports fields at county parks and along rights of wayOperates assigned equipment to improve park grounds clean ditches and install infrastructureOperates a variety of hand and power tools to clear land cut limbs and remove brushRemoves litter and debris along county roads and parks empties trash receptaclesApplies pesticides to control weeds and pestsMaintain and prepare sports fields for playAssists in the maintenance and repair of playground equipment fences courts and pavilionsInstalls and maintains landscapingInstalls repairs and cleans culvertsPatches potholesInstalls maintains and repairs road traffic and park signs; removes damaged signs including fabricating and applying letteringPerforms traffic control and access control operationsGreases and performs preventive maintenance on equipment; changes blades

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work in addition to a high school diploma Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeshipinternship or having had a similar position for one to two years Possession of or ability to obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Georgie for the type of vehicle for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
