Job summary

Discovery Land Company is seeking an Equipment Operator to support golf course maintenance and landscape operations. The role involves operating a range of equipment (tractors, loaders, backhoes, mowers, sprayers) and performing groundskeeping tasks across greens, tees, fairways, and surrounding areas.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and experience on golf course teams or related construction.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Driver’s License preferred.
• Prior golf course maintenance or construction experience.
• Knowledge of engine operation and hydraulic machinery helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment including tractors, loaders, backhoes, mowers, and sprayers.
• Mow greens, tees, fairways, and rough with various mowers and power equipment.
• Rake and manicure desert landscape and sand traps; perform hand mowing and trimming.
• Perform renovations, shoveling and raking, and construction work as needed.
• Load/unload materials and transport equipment; perform janitorial tasks as required.

Job description

The Equipment Operator, under the supervision of the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, or Equipment Manager, performs work involving the use of large and small equipment including tractors, loaders, backhoes, mowers, and other maintenance equipment to support the operations and maintenance of the golf course and surrounding landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate all types of equipment including utility vehicles, flymos, mechanical sand trap rakes, aerifiers, sprayers, turf vacs, skip loaders, and sprayers.
• Mow greens, tees, fairways, and rough with small power mowers, trimmers, greens mower, tee mowers, fly-mos and backpack blowers on designated areas of the golf course.
• Rake and manicure desert landscape and sand traps.
• Perform hand mowing or hand trimming work.
• Perform renovations and construction work, including shoveling and raking.
• Perform cleaning procedures and manual labor tasks.
• Load and unload materials.
• Excavate and backfill ditches and trenches with hand tools.
• Lay sod.
• Participate in annual overseeding of the golf course.
• Assist in construction of new greens, tees, and fairways.
• Clean drains and culverts.
• Sweep cart paths.
• Collect and empty litter cans.
• Operate small utility vehicles to haul mowers, materials, and remove debris as necessary.
• Perform janitorial work in cleaning and maintaining a building.
• Cultivate and water trees and plants.
• Perform other related groundwork as required.
• Perform duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Prior experience working on a golf course maintenance team or similar construction experience.
• Knowledge of large and small engine operation and repair.
• Knowledge of hydraulic powered machine operation and repair.
