Job summary

Savage is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator for our Cliffside, NC location. This full-time role covers a rotating 7-on/7-off schedule with 12-hour shifts (days and nights) including OT. Pay is $23 per hour, with comprehensive benefits and a strong safety culture. Work location is at 573 Duke Power Rd, Mooresboro, NC 28114.

Qualified candidates will operate heavy machinery, read/understand English, and be able to pass safety tests. Must be able to work weekends/holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience operating dozers, front-end loaders, excavators, locomotives or other heavy equipment.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English; follow written/verbal instructions; basic math and computer skills.

• Operate conveyor systems to transport coal following safety practices.
• Railcar switching.
• Unload and reclaim limestone and coal.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair facilities and coal handling system.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operate conveyor systems to transport coal in accordance with applicable safety practices
• Railcar Switching
• Unload and reclaim limestone and coal
• Maintenance, trouble shooting and repairing facilities, equipment and coal handling system
• Perform routine clean-up and housekeeping
• Complete daily safety inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure safe operations

What You'll Need

• Experience in operation of dozers, front-end loaders, excavators, locomotives and other heavy equipment
• Ability to read, write, and understand English, follow written and/or verbal instruction, and possess basic math and computer skills
• Unload and reclaim limestone and coal
• Work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
• Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
• 2-5 years of experience preferred but not required
• Valid Drivers License

Here are some of the physical requirements for this role

• Work in an environment containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environments
• Work at heights, climbing stairs and climbing ladders
• Walk on uneven ground and up to 3 miles per shift
• Must be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually or as needed
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently
