Position Summary:
The UG - Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating specialized machinery to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utilities and telecommunications infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Will operate equipment such as a mini excavator, backhoes, missiles, vacuum excavators boring machine, drill. skid steer, forklift, plow, trenchers,
· Will read and interpret site plans, blueprints and utility markings to ensure proper location to operate.
· Will perform pre – operation equipment inspections, ensuring proper maintenance and adhering to all safety protocols.
· Will maneuver equipment in tight spaces and around existing utilities with precision.
· Must wear required uniform and PPE at all times.
· Ad hoc- projects, other duties assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
· Prior experience operating heavy equipment in construction, telecommunications, or utility environments.
· Knowledge of safe digging practices and underground utility identification.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to follow direction.
· Strong attention to detail and able to make good decisions.
· Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
· Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
· Willingness to work in outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions.
· Clean driving record is required.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. CDL preferred.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, based on project and business needs.
Environmental and Physical Demands:
This position will be exposed to outdoor elements to include but not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, sleet, wind, uneven terrain, road noise and traffic. Will routinely work around heavy equipment and tools with moving mechanical parts. This position requires lifting of materials in excess of 50lbs.
