Rice County is seeking an Equipment Operator to collect recyclables from the public and commercial haulers and to determine disposal. The role includes transporting, loading, baling, and processing materials for the next stage in the process.
The job also involves operating light equipment, assisting with hazardous waste handling, and performing routine maintenance. Typical hours are full-time, with 7:30 am–4:00 pm and occasional Saturday shifts.
The Equipment Operator facilitates the collection of recyclables from the public and commercial haulers. The Operator determines the disposition of each class of recycling material and transports, loads, bales and processes the material for the next step in the process. Acts as a contact person as the public drops off recyclable materials and answers questions concerning recycling. May operate heavy equipment to receive, process, and transport solid waste at the Rice County Landfill and/or provide office assistance for landfill and recycling divisions. Assists the Household Hazardous Waste Coordinator with the collection, disposal, and transport of hazardous waste.
Minimum job requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and one to three years related experience. Additional qualifications include a general knowledge of equipment maintenance and/or construction practices, good verbal communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a team. Class C Driver’s License required upon hire.
Class B Commercial License and Landfill Operators Certificate preferred but not required.
$24.17 - $26.35 per hour / 49ers – Grade6
Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week. Generally, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday and Saturdays 7:30 am - 11:30 am.
