Job summary

Page Mechanical Group, Inc. in Commerce City, CO, seeks a versatile technician experienced with trenching equipment and utility work. Prior micro trenching or mini excavator experience is valued, and an active CDL is a plus.

This role covers daily truck/equipment prep, site surveys, safe traffic control, meticulous paperwork, and collaboration with foremen to ensure timely, quality project completion. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare truck and machinery daily: oil, fueling, greasing, maintenance, cleaning, stocking.
  • Organize and oversee inventory and daily prep of equipment.
  • Survey job sites for Blue Stakes, sprinklers and obstacles before digging.
  • Load and unload equipment.
  • Operate backhoe or excavator; hand-dig trenches near utilities.
  • Spot for machine operator during trenching.
  • Backfill trenches and compact fill.
  • Replace landscape removed during jobs to satisfy customers.
  • Handle traffic control.
  • Complete daily paperwork (time cards, receipts, DOT forms).
  • Maintain equipment/materials/hour checklist.
  • Communicate safety needs with foreman; participate in crew/safety meetings.
  • Follow safety rules on and off site.
  • Report progress to Foreman; monitor quality and resolve issues.
  • Travel may be required.

Job description

Job Summary

Experience operating Micro Trenching Equipment and/or Mini Excavators is strongly desired. Experience digging around utilities strongly preferred. Active CDL is a plus.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepares truck and machinery daily, includes but not limited to: checking oil, fueling, greasing, preventative maintenance, cleaning trailer, stocking with supplies, emptying garbage, checking lights on trailer, running through the DOT inspection list daily.
  • Organizes and oversees inventory of tools and daily preparation of truck and machinery.
  • Surveys job site for Blue Stakes, sprinklers, other obstacles, etc. before digging.
  • Loads and unloads equipment.
  • Operates backhoe or excavator, hand digs trench two feet either side of marked utilities for location before trenches are dug by machinery.
  • Spots for machine operator while trench is being dug.
  • Backfills trenches and compacts the filling.
  • Replaces all landscape removed during any job, making every effort in meeting the satisfaction of the customer and the public.
  • Handles traffic control.
  • Completes paperwork daily, in a neat and legible fashion.
  • Paperwork includes but is not limited to: time cards, charge-outs, coding of receipts, detail checklist, DOT forms, etc.
  • Maintains a checklist on equipment, materials used, man hours, etc.
  • Communicates directly with the foreman in safety needs, work needs, and individual needs. Actively participates in crew and safety meetings.
  • Follows established safety rules on job site, to and from job site, and uses common sense in maintaining a safe environment for self, team members, customers, and public.
  • Reports progress of jobs to Foreman and discusses any problems for resolution. Monitors and verifies quality control and uniformity of work.
  • Travel may be required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able and willing to conduct strenuous and physically demanding tasks for long hours, work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds.
  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Must be able to operate or workaround heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while performing work.
  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear.
