Job summary

Martin Marietta Materials in Columbia, SC is seeking an Equipment Operator who is safety minded, dependable, and motivated to safely operate a range of off-road vehicles and heavy equipment in our mining operations.

The role covers quarry tasks from water trucks and haul trucks to dozers, loaders, and excavators, with shift hours 6:00 am–4:00 pm, weekends and overtime as needed. Training and maintenance are part of daily duties, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Experience operating mobile/construction equipment.
• Experience operating off-road heavy equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of off-road vehicles and heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Complete daily pre- and post-inspections of work areas and equipment.
• Perform pre-shift safety inspections and report repairs to supervision.
• Maintain safe operations around conveyors, surge piles and crushers.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance and check for leaks or wear.
• Control safe traffic flow across the site.
• Assist in training co-workers as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

Martin Marietta is seeking an Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of off-road vehicles and heavy equipment utilized in Mining. The equipment operator will be responsible for operating various pieces of equipment in the quarry, including the water truck, haul truck, dozers, loaders, and excavators. Hours are 6:00 am - 4:00 pm including weekends and overtime as necessary.

A typical day for a(n) Equipment Operator may include:

• Operating a variety of off-road vehicles and heavy equipment within the company guidelines and safety standards
• Completing daily pre and post inspection of working areas and ensures they are equipped with adequate berms and roadways
• Performing pre-shift safety inspection on equipment and reports needed repairs to the supervisor
• Ensuring safe operations around conveyors, surge piles and crushers
• Performing daily preventative maintenance - tire pressure, oil, grease, diesel fuel, hoses for leaks and all moving parts for proper function
• Maintaining safe traffic flow throughout the site
• Aiding in the training of co-workers as needed
• Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

You may be a good fit if you:

• Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
• Have experience in the maintenance and operation of mobile equipment, construction equipment and/or equipment used processing plants
• Have experience in operation and maintenance of off-road vehicles and heavy equipment (preferred)
