Transylvania County is seeking a dedicated Sanitation Equipment Operator to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the community. You will operate heavy vehicles and ensure efficient transportation of waste and recyclables while performing necessary maintenance. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and experience with equipment operation, ready to contribute positively to the community.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Ability to obtain Landfill Operations certification within six (6) months of hire. Commercial, Class B Driver's License with Tanker Endorsements preferred valid in the State of North Carolina.
Physical Demands
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Work Environment
Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently exposure to fumes or airborne particles, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
