Job summary

Maricopa County Transportation Department is seeking an Equipment Operator to drive and control trucks and construction equipment used for road and bridge projects. The role requires operating various equipment safely, hauling materials, and performing routine maintenance.

Candidates must have at least one year of equipment experience, a High School diploma or GED, and a valid Arizona Class A CDL with tanker endorsement. Pre-employment safety checks are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of medium to large construction equipment per safety rules.
  • Haul materials and transport vehicles to job sites.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on trucks and equipment.
  • Complete daily logs and reports; participate in safety meetings.
  • Record information in Cartegraph asset system.
  • Perform traffic control activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

We Require
  • One year of experience operating trucks and equipment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement
  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL

Job Contributions
  • Operate a variety of medium to large-sized construction and maintenance equipment/vehicles in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks
  • Perform manual labor assignments as needed
  • Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment; identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair
  • Complete required daily logs and prepare reports; attend safety meetings
  • Complete daily written reports and enter information into the Cartegraph asset management system
  • Perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards and traffic problems.
  • Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
  • Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or up to 20 - 50 pounds constantly
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware

Commercial motor vehicles, various construction equipment, including but not limited to water truck, dump truck, skid steer, sweeper, broce broom, trailers, and hand tools.

Protective Equipment Required

Hard hat, gloves, eye protection, steel-toed boots.
