Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Fleet Operations Division is hiring up to three Equipment Mechanics I, II or III based in Austin, TX. The role maintains a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment, supporting daily operations and responding to emergencies across Texas.

The position offers specialized training, PPE, tools provided, and a potential recruitment bonus. CDL training is available with zero upfront cost and lodging/per diem when required.

Qualifications

  • Equipment Mechanic I requires 2 years in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Equipment Mechanic II requires 4 years in diagnostics and repair.
  • Equipment Mechanic III requires 7 years in diagnostics and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts, including air brakes and ABS.
  • Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Checks lighting and wiring for headlights, spotlights, tail lights, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment.
