Description

Facilities Services invites applications for an Equipment Mechanic to be a part of the Vehicle Repair Center.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on vehicles, various large equipment, and emergency standby generators
  • Perform all phases of automotive related repair
  • Use diagnostic scan tools for OBD l and OBD ll emissions systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years of automotive apprenticeship or two (2) full years automotive trade school
  • Five (5) full years as a journeyman mechanic
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures related to trade and abide by all OSHA safety regulations
  • Knowledge of digital VOM use to test and repair electrical circuits
  • Knowledge of lead acid and AGM batteries and proper testing procedures
  • Working knowledge of the following; hydraulic systems, using valve & seat grinding equipment, hydraulic press, tire changer, tire balancer, floor jacks, wheel alignment equipment, all mechanical hand and power tools used in trade, mechanical, hydraulic, and air brake systems
  • Technically and mechanically skilled with the ability to diagnose, repair, and overhaul gas and diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, and related systems
  • Proficient in welding, using diagnostic tools (including OBD I & II), and interpreting SDS sheets to safely troubleshoot and maintain equipment
  • Able to troubleshoot unfamiliar issues using technical manuals, computers, and diagnostic tools; read and interpret electrical schematics for DC systems
  • Comfortable performing light metal fabrication, working at heights, handling trade-related chemicals, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Self-motivated and dependable with strong communication skills; able to follow instructions, collaborate with others, and respond to after-hours or weekend callouts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in welding (Arc, MIG, Gas) and brazing, including use of Oxy-Acetylene torches
  • Skilled in metalworking tools and machinery, including lathes, band saws, sheet metal brakes, and shears
  • Experienced in engine machining and rebuilding using cylinder hones and related tools
  • Competent in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and dial gauges
  • Knowledgeable in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and air brake systems; ASE certified

Physical Requirements

(Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)

  • Lifting: Ground to 36 inches, up to 90 pounds. Ground to 8 inches over head height, up to 25 pounds.
  • Carrying: Front carry up to 90 pounds, for 10 feet or less.
  • Pushing/Pulling: (during the use of tools) 150 pounds maximum, 100 pounds sustained.
  • Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing or crouching position while using tools.
  • Reaching with your arms in all directions.
  • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.
  • Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2" to 5 1/2" circumference needing an average of 50 pounds of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 100 pounds).

Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.

Additional Information

Position Number: 114600

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
