Job summary

Arkansas State University-Beebe is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair tools and equipment used in buildings, grounds, and general maintenance. You will perform preventative maintenance, handle work orders, and contribute to keeping facilities in good condition.

The role requires handling diverse machinery and power tools, reading schematics, and performing routine repairs. This position supports campus facilities and will involve multi-site upkeep on ASU-Beebe campuses.

Qualifications

• High school equivalent with emphasis on office/shop skills.
• 0–6 months related maintenance experience or training.
• Experience in maintenance and repair of small engines and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors, forklifts, riding lawn mowers, weed eaters, trimmers.
• Identify problems and determine action using schematics or manuals.
• Check cords, plugs, and safety features; oil and grease gears on hand tools.
• Clean equipment and parts with air hoses or chemicals; maintain cleaning gear.
• Sharpen blades on mowers, tractors and hand tools.
• Maintain parts and supplies; order inventory as required.
• Maintain the grounds and all buildings.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Equipment Mechanic is responsible through preventative maintenance and work orders for maintaining and repairing tools and equipment used in buildings, grounds, and general maintenance. Maintains grounds and buildings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates tractors, forklifts, riding lawn mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, etc.
• Identifies problems and determines appropriate action by consulting schematics or manuals.
• Checks cords, plugs, and safety features, oils and greases gears and casings on electric hand tools, drills, saws, and impact hammers.
• Cleans dirty equipment and/or parts using air hoses or chemical solutions, and maintains cleaning and floor maintenance equipment.
• Sharpens blades on mowers, tractors, and other hand tools.
• Maintains parts and supplies, such as oil, gas, and filters. Orders new inventory as required.
• Maintain the grounds and all buildings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education: Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others.

Experience General: 0 to 6 months related experience or training. Experience in maintenance and repair of small engines and power tools or related area.
