Job Description

JOB GOAL: The Equipment Maintenance Technician works under limited supervision and is responsible for identifying, repairing, installing, maintaining, upgrading, and recommending institutional food‑service equipment for all kitchens in the LRSD. The role includes completing work orders, maintaining records, performing routine service work (monthly, biannual, annual), and ensuring uninterrupted meal service to students. The technician reports directly to the Child Nutrition Asset Management Coordinator.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve‑month contract (240 days), Grade 112 ($38,611.20–$67,123.20) plus benefits package. Precise salary placement within the range is based on experience and verifiable certifications. FSLA: Non‑Exempt.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate’s degree preferred in a related field (college or university). High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three years of successful experience in maintenance, installation, and repair of institutional food‑service equipment.
• EPA G08 Certificates – Types I, II, III and/or Universal required, or capable of obtaining within six months of employment.
• Effective written and oral communication skills; strong problem‑solving ability related to equipment maintenance.
• Computer literacy; capable of maintaining records and financial accountability.
• Valid driver’s license; no convictions for careless/reckless driving or DWI in the last five years.
• Physical ability to lift heavy loads and stand for prolonged periods; ability to work in all environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determine maintenance priorities with the Asset Management Coordinator and coordinate with supervisors and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
• Perform preventive maintenance: change vent filter and casing, conduct inspections, and document repairs with dates, details, and material costs.
• Diagnose and repair equipment issues; reinstall or replace as necessary to maintain efficient operation.
• Install and reposition equipment for replacements or renovations; maintain fixed‑assets log.
• Procure parts and materials per district policy and supervisor instructions.
• Conduct equipment startup and shutdown during school‑year openings and closings.
• Adhere to preventive maintenance schedules for major equipment at each district location.
• Schedule workload to prevent disruption of food‑service operations; respond to emergencies during or after hours.
• Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and training seminars as assigned.
• Train child‑nutrition staff on minor equipment adjustments and maintenance.
• Comply with safety and sanitation standards for child‑nutrition food‑service operations.
• Ensure kitchen, equipment, and tool security; safeguard against improper use of district resources.
• Maintain a clean and organized shop area.
• Coordinate with deadlines and timelines for electrical, plumbing, and construction requirements related to equipment installation or repair.
• Monitor temperatures of walk‑in and reach‑in units outside normal hours; be available on call to move food if needed.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions

The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, stair climbing, and operating hand controls.
