Job Overview

This is the fourth level in the Equipment Maintenance series. Incumbents analyze, inspect, test, maintain, and repair specialized vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing fire department vehicles, welding, fabricating parts, and keeping maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and equipment, including systems like fuel, electrical, and cooling.
• Perform vehicle servicing such as oil changes, brake repairs, and fluid checks.
• Respond to service calls and conduct on-site repairs; operate wreckers for vehicle recovery.
• Maintain detailed logs and reports; keep work areas clean and dispose of waste materials properly.
• Perform body repairs and fabricate or modify tools as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in a related field.
• Two years of experience in heavy truck maintenance and repair.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Automotive Service Excellence Certificate in Heavy Truck Repair.
• Forklift Operator's License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices, diagnostic devices, safety procedures, and recordkeeping. Skills include using maintenance tools, diagnosing malfunctions, and effective communication.

Physical Requirements

Heavy physical effort, including lifting over 100 pounds, climbing, crawling, and working in various physical positions. Must have good visual and auditory perception, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Additional Information

• Senior level requires additional skills in fabricating, modifying tools, and working on heavy equipment during inclement weather.
