Equipment & Facilities Maintenance Technician | Charleston, SC

Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance | Full Time | Starting at $60,000+

Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM | Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Southern Lumber & Millwork is hiring an Equipment & Facilities Maintenance Technician in Charleston, SC to work alongside our experienced Facilities Maintenance Manager.

We are looking for someone with hands on experience in mechanical repair, industrial equipment, heavy equipment, electrical work, facility maintenance, or a related trade who is ready to take the next step in their career.

You do not need to know everything coming in. We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, coachable, takes direction well, and is eager to learn. You will help maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the equipment and systems that keep Southern Lumber running while continuing to develop your mechanical and electrical skills.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to learn from an experienced maintenance professional, grow your skills, and build a long term career with Southern Lumber.

Monday through Friday. No nights. No weekends. No on call schedule. Paid every Friday.

What You Will Do

Working alongside our Facilities Maintenance Manager, you will help troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a wide variety of equipment and facility systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Use repair manuals, parts diagrams, schematics, drawings, and other technical resources to troubleshoot industrial and heavy equipment
  • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test equipment and components
  • Research and source replacement parts and equipment when needed
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance, including oil changes and replacement of filters, belts, coolants, hoses, and other service items
  • Assist with light automotive and industrial electrical repairs
  • Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical specifications, schematics, drawings, and equipment manuals
  • Use electrical meters and other measurement and diagnostic tools
  • Access equipment from above, below, and within machinery to diagnose problems and complete repairs
  • Clean and maintain equipment using power washers, spray painting equipment, and other tools
  • Assist with general facility maintenance and repair projects as needed

As your knowledge and experience grow, you will have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility.

What We Are Looking For

Technical experience will give you a good foundation, but your willingness to learn, take direction, and solve problems is equally important.

The right person will:

  • Have hands on mechanical, electrical, industrial, heavy equipment, or maintenance experience
  • Take direction well and be eager to learn from an experienced manager
  • Have strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills
  • Be willing to ask questions and learn unfamiliar equipment and systems

  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, or servicing equipment preferred
  • Experience with electrical systems, hydraulics, preventative maintenance, industrial machinery, or facility maintenance is a plus

  • See clearly enough to safely perform repairs, inspect equipment, use tools, and read technical manuals and diagrams
  • Routinely lift, move, position, and handle equipment components and parts while performing repairs and service
  • Manually handle parts weighing up to 100 pounds when required
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and other maintenance equipment
