Job summary

Coherent Corp. seeks an experienced technician to troubleshoot and repair complex manufacturing equipment in a high‑tech environment near San Jose, CA. You will perform preventive maintenance, rebuild assemblies, and ensure safe, compliant operations in a clean room and production setting.

The role requires an AS degree in Electronics and 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably with vacuum systems or plasma tools. Strong documentation and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • AS degree in Electronics or equivalent training.
  • 5+ years repairing complex manufacturing equipment; vacuum systems/plasma tools/ion implanters preferred.
  • Basic understanding of hazardous chemicals.
  • Equivalent Military experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and rectify machine down situations.
  • Perform scheduled, routine preventive maintenance using established procedures.
  • Rebuild and prepare assemblies for quick installation.
  • Set up and run equipment after repair and, occasionally, in production.
  • Maintain shop equipment including preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Document work in an online computer system in the fab.
  • Share knowledge of equipment by training and coaching fellow employees.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Maintains hazardous and inert gas handling systems to include cylinder changes.
  • Repairs and calibrates process equipment requiring high vacuum equipment and associated support systems.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Rebuild and prepare assemblies for quick installation.
  • Set up and run equipment after repair and, occasionally, in production.
  • Maintain shop equipment including preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Document work in an online computer system in the fab.
  • Share knowledge of equipment by training and coaching fellow employees.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs faults in electrical/electronic systems.
  • Maintains hazardous and inert gas handling systems to include cylinder changes. Orders parts and materials that are required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Repairs and calibrates process equipment requiring high vacuum equipment and associated support systems.
  • Performs daily checks and inspections.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education & Experience
  • AS degree in Electronics or equivalent training (minimum) with background in Electronics
  • Experience repairing complex manufacturing equipment (5+ years preferred). Semiconductor equipment experience preferred (specifically vacuum systems, plasma tools, and/or ion implanters).
  • Basic understanding of the hazards of working with and around chemicals.
  • Equivalent Military experience will also be considered.
Skills
  • Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze technical procedures, documentation, instruction manuals, and or governmental regulations.
  • Aptitude for Mechanical and Electrical repair work.
  • Ability to do electronics troubleshooting as needed.
  • Capable of using commercial and vendor proprietary software in the process of repairing production equipment.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers and management.
  • Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
Working Conditions
  • Work in an office environment and non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility
  • Work in a Class 10/100/1000 clean room for extended periods
  • Wear full clean room attire
  • Work with and/or around chemicals such as acids and solvents
  • Providing support during off hours

ITAR/EAR and Other Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or protected individual) .
  • Compliance with all applicable export control regulations.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel as needed and walk or stand for most of shift.

Safety Requirements

Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.
