Equipment and Controls Technician – Bear Creek/Bienville, LA

Position Overview

Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, operating approximately 79,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. We transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, CO2, and more, while our terminals store and handle petroleum products, chemicals, and other materials.

The Equipment and Controls Technician (E&C Tech) is based at Kinder Morgan’s Southern Natural Gas Pipeline (SNG) Bear Creek Storage/Bienville Compressor Station in Bienville, LA. This full-time position is Monday through Friday, with some on-call responsibilities during nights and weekends. Responsibilities
  • Implement, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical power circuits, mechanical equipment, control and automation systems, electronic and pneumatic equipment in pipeline and station operations.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, operate, repair, calibrate, and adjust various mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, electronic, and PLC control systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, compressors, drivers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and maintenance checks on control systems.
  • Maintain electrical switchgear and power distribution systems.
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on station equipment.
  • Lead advanced testing of engines, compressors, and pumps; develop and implement improvements based on testing results.
  • Assist with the evaluation and maintenance of facility grounding systems.
  • Install and repair security/intrusion systems.
  • Ensure the upkeep of facilities and equipment, oversee third-party construction and maintenance activities, and address safety and environmental concerns.
  • Complete documentation and work in compliance with company standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices, including handling of gas and liquids.
  • Assist in installing, troubleshooting, and designing new facilities.
  • Mentor fellow technicians and contribute to operational excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including commissioning new equipment, conduit installation, wiring, and mechanical tubing work.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience; Bachelor's degree is advantageous but not required.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Codes, electrical/mechanical blueprints, electronic testing instruments, process controls, and gas processing fundamentals.
  • Experience with handling flammable gases and liquids, high/low pressure systems.
  • Valid driver’s license; may require a commercial driver’s license and certifications.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office, math skills, good communication, teamwork, and safety awareness.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in adverse weather, climb ladders, and work at heights.
Working Conditions
  • Work in low-lit areas, extreme weather, and at heights; travel may be required.
  • Must be able to respond to call-outs within 1 hour.
