Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Equine Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside our team, in providing the highest quality care to our patients and ensure the smooth operation of daily hospital activities. The ideal candidate will have excellent horse handling skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle horses safely and competently, including restraint and monitoring behavior.
  • Assist veterinarians in examinations, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries.
  • Administer medications and treatments under veterinary or technician supervision.
  • Prepping patients for surgery and helping monitor anesthesia during surgery.
  • Help perform diagnostic imaging, including radiography and ultrasound.
  • Perform laboratory tests, including blood work and fecal exams, as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, surgical areas, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and sterilization of medical equipment and instruments.
  • Assist with routine farm visits as needed.
  • Participate in inventory management and ensure that the clinic is clean and stocked with necessary supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of horse handling experience.
  • Previous experience working with horses in a professional or veterinary setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of equine behavior, handling, and health care.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects and jog horses for lameness examinations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Pay Range

$18—$26 USD
