Job summary

Childhelp, Alice C. Tyler Village in Lignum, Virginia, seeks an Equine Assistant to join our Ranch team. You will care for horses, support our therapists in an equine assisted mental health program, and help resident youth on a 270-acre campus.

This part-time role (28 hours/week) includes weekend shifts and variable days, with schedules like 8am-6pm on Saturdays or Sundays and 1pm-7pm on other days. A background in equine care and a passion for helping youth are essential.

Qualifications

• Be at least 19 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with clear record for past 3 years.
• Minimum of one year full-time experience with horses.
• Ability to safely handle horses independently.
• Knowledge of basic equine first aid and care.
• Experience in EAP/equine therapy or related services is a plus.
• Ability to lead equine activities with at-risk children.
• Must pass background check, drug screen, physical and TB test.

Responsibilities

• Maintain ranch areas: stalls, pastures, and horse care tasks.
• Assist with feeding, grooming, turnouts and basic medical needs.
• Support therapists in equine assisted mental health activities for children.
• Safely lead activities and supervise youth during sessions.
