Job summary

NC State University’s CVM Teaching Hospital seeks an Equine and Farm Animal Medical Support Technician to join our clinical team and support large animal patients. You will provide hour-by-hour care, monitor patients, assist veterinarians during exams and procedures, and help with teaching veterinary students in a fast-paced academic hospital.

Qualifications

• On-call schedule, weekend and holiday rotations are required.
• Experience in equine or farm animal handling and medical support is essential.
• Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent training/experience.
• Preferred: Licensed RVT in North Carolina with equine clinical care experience.
• Experience nursing care and technical support for hospitalized equine/farm animal patients.
• Experience mentoring or teaching veterinary students or learners.

Responsibilities

• Treatment & Monitoring: direct hourly treatments, patient monitoring, and general husbandry for equine and farm animals.
• Emergency Response: provide triage and treatment for emergencies.
• Veterinary Assistance: support veterinarians during examinations and procedures; animal handling and restraint.
• Infectious Disease Control: maintain infection control protocols.
• Clinical Instruction: assist in teaching veterinary students and house officers.
• Communication: coordinate with ancillary services and other departments for seamless transitions.
• Facility Maintenance: manage supplies and equipment, oversee repairs and ensure tools work.
• Administrative Accuracy: assist with inventory control, supply ordering, and billing accuracy.
