Job summary

DeKalb County is seeking a dedicated Barn/Horse Caretaker to maintain the health and well-being of horses at the county horse farm and perform general facility upkeep. You will feed, water, exercise, groom, and clean stalls daily, while monitoring health and assisting with client needs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, substantial horse-handling experience, and comfort operating farm equipment. This is a nonexempt, on-site position based in Decatur, GA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; one year work experience in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least five years of hands-on horse-handling experience.
• At least three years of barn operations and animal-care duties.
• At least three years of experience operating farm equipment including arena grooming and fence repair.

Responsibilities

• Feeds and waters horses according to schedules and health programs; maintains feeding records.
• Monitors horse health and coordinates with veterinary staff as needed.
• Exercises horses and moves them to stalls daily; provides appropriate exercise.
• Grooms and cleans horses; cleans stalls and bedding as needed.
• Maintains fences and repairs as necessary; assists boarding clients with horse handling.
