Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, materials engineering, or mechanical engineering, in at least the 3rd year.
  • Experience with vacuum equipment and cleanroom work is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to work safely in lab settings and around hazardous materials with PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Thin film vapor deposition with a focus on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE).
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of instruments used for post-growth analysis (Contactless Sheet Resistivity, Hall Effect, AFM).
  • Record, document, and track wafers and perform post-growth analysis.
  • Assist with repairs, maintenance, and general upkeep of the deposition equipment.

Come be a part of MACOM and help advance the next generation of connectivity infrastructure!Thin Films, InternRole Overview:Intern will get hands on experience with state-of-the-art semiconductor material deposition using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), with an emphasis on GaN based materials. Additionally, they will use various characterization techniques to assess the grown film’s structural and electrical qualities. This includes, but is not limited to, atomic force microscopy (AFM) along with Hall Effect and Lehighton measurements.Candidate will be given a personalized project to work on that has the potential to impact business decisions at MAOCM. In order to succeed in this project, they will receive ongoing training and mentorship. This work will culminate in a final poster presentation alongside their fellow interns.Essential Role Functions and Responsibilities:• Thin film vapor deposition with a focus on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)• Assist with the operation and maintenance of various instruments used for the post-growth analysis of semiconductor materials (Contactless Sheet Resistivity, Hall Effect measurements, AFM)• Record, document, and track wafers and perform post-growth analysis.• Assist with repairs, maintenance, and general upkeep of the deposition equipment.Required Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in electrical engineering, applied physics, materials engineering or mechanical engineering, and at least in their 3rd year of college study.Preferred Skillset: Experience with any of the following is highly desired:• Vacuum equipment• Cleanroom work• Semiconductor physicsPhysical Requirements:Must be able to work safely in laboratory settings including semiconductor processing and materials growth areas and clean room facilities. Must be capable of working around toxic and hazardous materials with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.During the 12 weeks each Intern will:• Be given an individual and well-defined project with set outcome goals• Gain hands on experience• Receive excellent training and ongoing supervision• Be invited to attend an intern webinar series• Attend networking/social events• Attend and present at Poster Session about each Interns project successes and pitfalls• Receive formal, written feedbackSpecial Requirements:Due to ITAR regulations, only candidates who are U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, or individuals granted asylum or refugee status) will be considered for this position.The Hourly Range for this position is $20 – $47 per hour.
