Overview

Goldbelt Professional Services specializes in providing expert resources for Public Health missions including scientific, technical, and administrative support from junior staff to high-level subject matter experts. Research and data driven, Goldbelt Professional Services’ experts create solutions customized to the client’s needs.

Summary: As an Epidemiologist II the candidate shall perform specified portions of scientific work involving vaccine effectiveness and analyses, case surveillance data, special investigations support, and communications/services to public health partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead studies about vaccine effectiveness, including coordinating with partners to facilitate execution of shared studies.
• Develop study design under supervisor and perform analyses pertaining to vaccine effectiveness analyses and other analyses.
• Conduct cleaning and analyses on surveillance data to assist in the identification of cases/clusters or concerns for investigations.
• Provide support for case-based surveillance systems; working with the pox Epidemiology team and external/state partners to assist in the advancement of national case surveillance.
• Conduct cleaning and analyses on surveillance data to assist in the identification of cases/clusters or concerns for investigations.
• Manage data for multiple clinical studies, including vaccine effectiveness studies.
• Write manuscripts, communications, or emails that facilitate partner engagement.
• Provide assistance on database design, management, and analyses for epidemiology projects within the branch and for special investigations.
• Communications to public health professionals via the development of materials and participation in trainings and meetings.
• Provide service to clinicians, public health officials, and citizens for the poxvirus phone duty.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

• Working knowledge of public health research, epidemiologic studies, case-based surveillance, and study coordination practices.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate study and surveillance activities across multidisciplinary teams and external public health partners.
• Experience cleaning, validating, organizing, and managing surveillance or research data to support case identification, cluster review, investigations, and study activities.
• Knowledge of database management, data quality assurance, and maintenance of accurate study and surveillance records.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Access and statistical or analytical software such as SAS, SPSS, R, or similar tools.
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including tracking study activities, managing deadlines, maintaining documentation, and balancing multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clinicians, public health officials, state and local partners, study teams, and members of the public.
• Ability to develop study materials, training resources, presentations, surveillance summaries, technical documentation, and scientific reports.
• Ability to support public health consultation and phone-duty activities by collecting relevant information, accurately documenting interactions, and appropriately communicating or escalating concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates or Bachelors Degree in public health, epidemiology, biological sciences, health sciences, clinical research, or a closely related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biological sciences, health sciences, clinical research, or a closely related field.
• Approximately 5-7 years of experience supporting or coordinating public health, epidemiologic, clinical, or research studies.
• Experience supporting infectious disease surveillance, outbreak investigations, cluster investigations, or other communicable disease activities.
• Experience working with case-based surveillance systems or public health data platforms at the local, state, or federal level.
• Familiarity with DCIPHER or comparable public health surveillance, case-management, or data-integration systems.
• Experience collaborating with state health departments, local health departments, federal public health programs, healthcare providers, or other external partners.
• Experience contributing to manuscripts, abstracts, peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or other scientific products.
• Experience developing or delivering training and technical assistance to public health professionals or research partners.
• Prior experience with CDC.
