Job Responsibilities

This Epidemiologist 2 position focuses on infectious diseases with environmental health components. Under general supervision, Epidemiologist 2 develops, plans, and conducts epidemiologic investigations, public health surveillance, and interventions limited in scope and/or complexity. Epidemiologist 2 collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares epidemiologic reports. Epidemiologist 2 serves as an intermediate-level professional epidemiologist and is responsible for carrying out a broad and complex range of analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, prevention, and control of notifiable diseases. This role involves substantial communication with members of the public and community partners in verbal and written formats.

The Epidemiologist 2 is responsible for follow-up of notifiable conditions including animal bites and other rabies exposures (including rabies post-exposure prophylaxis), foodborne illness outbreaks, vector borne illnesses, legionellosis, and others. Epidemiologist 2 works both independently, and as an experienced team member. The Epidemiologist 2 guides Tier 1 Epidemiologists in conducting public health surveillance, project management, and analytic pursuits.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field

OR

Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field

OR

Two years of experience at the lower-level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with environmental health backgrounds and experience demonstrating competence in conducting epidemiologic investigations, public health surveillance, epidemiologic data analysis, public health interventions, and implementing control measures.
