The Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department is seeking an Epidemiologist. Under limited supervision, you will investigate active Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) cases and conduct TB contact investigations. Other duties include analyzing the cause(s) of infectious diseases, advising on methods of disease control and prevention, and communicating with the medical community and the general public concerning TB control and prevention.

Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Health Services building, 525 Portland Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415, with the potential to travel to a hospital or home setting to meet with TB cases, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with hours between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In This Position, You Will
- Conduct TB contact investigations.
- Investigate TB cases by interviewing patients and contacts.
- Provide health information and recommendations to TB cases and contacts.
- Collaborate with exposure sites such as workplaces, health care settings, schools, and adult day centers.
- Consult with and recommend intervention and disease control measures to health care professionals, childcare providers, school health personnel, and others.
- Analyze, interpret, and report TB data.
- Enter and maintain TB surveillance data.
Need To Have
- One of the following:
- Master's degree in community health, environmental health, epidemiology, health policy research, public administration, public health, nursing, microbiology, or pharmacy, and one year of experience in hospital or public health epidemiology.
- Bachelor's degree in above areas and two years of experience in hospital or public health epidemiology.
- A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Nice To Have
- Experience:
- Conducting TB contact investigations.
- Conducting infectious disease case interviews and contact tracing (virtually and in-person).
- Working in public health in a clinical setting or in patient care.
- Working in infectious disease epidemiology.
- Working with people from diverse backgrounds, different cultural groups, and/or with limited English proficiency.
- Conducting statistical analysis of data sets, interpreting data, and writing reports.
- Working in an electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Knowledge of:
- The epidemiology and control of infectious or chronic diseases, including TB.
- The maintenance of disease surveillance systems.
- Federal, state, and county public health functions, regulations, policies, procedures, and programs.
- Skill in:
- Interviewing infectious disease cases and contacts.
- The use of statistical computer programs to analyze data and report results, epidemiological study methods.
- Ability to:
- Prepare information for presentation to the public and other public health audiences.
- Use, manage, and statistically analyze databases.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Work tactfully and effectively with the general public, staff, and other health professionals.
