The Epic RCM and Patient Access Application Director leads the strategic execution, oversight, enhancement, implementation, and optimization for all revenue cycle application components (Patient Access, Authorizations, HIM, Professional Billing, & Hospital Billing). This director will provide day‑to‑day direction and support to staff, liaise between leadership, IS and hospital staff, develop plans, gather project scope requirements, design technical documents, implementation planning, coordinate with vendors, and support departmental training to meet organizational goals.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic execution, oversight, enhancement, implementation, and optimization of all non‑clinical components of Epic revenue cycle applications including HB, PB, HIM, Cadence, Prelude, and ADT.
- Proactively communicate status of key activities, risks, and issues to the project manager as needed.
- Maintain scope, schedule, and quality of the project for all clinical applications.
- Work closely with the CIO, Executive Director, project directors, and project managers to coordinate build/update activities.
- Ensure that the revenue cycle community is engaged in the build and maintenance of EHR activities.
- Advise and coach team members on issues, key success factors, and lessons learned.
- Share the positive effects of innovation and system capabilities with team members.
- Manage the project from an organizational perspective while attending to detailed tasks.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues.
- Guide workflow design, build and test the system, and analyze other technical issues associated with Epic Foundation and ancillary system software.
- Serve as a liaison between organizational needs and IS staff.
- Maintain regular communication with Epic representatives, including participating in weekly project team meetings.
- Work with Epic representatives, business community, and end users to ensure the system meets business needs and project deliverables.
- Coordinate and collaborate with administrative teams, business leaders, IT, financial services, and quality/regulatory/risk management in the development and configuration of technology that assists users and clinicians.
- Develop an understanding of operational needs to set direction for organizational workflows.
- Participate in training and work with end users.
- Review status and issues on an ongoing basis with leadership.
- Hold weekly communications with team members to discuss status, issues, user concerns, budget, and milestones.
- Own integrated efforts spanning multiple applications such as BCA, Cutover, Meditech Financial applications.
- Assist with the IS budgeting process, including operational and capital budgets.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in computer science, finance, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Revenue cycle management, HIM, and/or billing experience as a supervisor or manager in a hospital, academic medical center, or healthcare setting.
- Prior Epic system experience and/or certifications highly preferred.
- Experience with technical support and patient health information security management around EMR health systems.
- Documented success in addressing business needs with information management solutions and leading design, development, deployment, and support of clinical information systems.
- Proven ability to organize and effectively manage a complex, cross‑segment business change initiative.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and interpersonal effectiveness to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines, e.g., physicians, administrative staff, external agencies, and vendors.
- Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
- Solid experience in understanding clinical workflow.
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a complex, dynamic environment.
- Ability to direct, educate, and manage hospital clinicians and staff.
Compensation
