Job summary

Kootenai Health is seeking a Cogito Business Analyst to lead analytics development for clinical, operational, and financial decision-making. The role emphasizes Epic reporting tools and Power BI, plus cross-functional project leadership across IT, clinical, and admin teams.

The CBA will translate business needs into scalable data products, coordinate complex analytics initiatives, and deliver high-impact insights to drive organizational performance. Remote eligibility is noted for this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of analytics experience required.
  • Epic certification or accreditation in one or more Epic modules as assigned.
  • Certification to be initiated and completed within 3 months after Epic training.
  • Epic certification in Data Courier Badge, Caboodle Data Model, Cogito Tools preferred.
  • Experience in hospital or clinical settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops interactive dashboards and reports with Power BI and Epic tools.
  • Collaborates with SMEs and project teams to identify report consumer needs and implement changes.
  • Translates business requirements into scalable data models and visualizations.
  • Builds extracts using the Reporting Workbench framework and delivers in-scope data.
  • Designs specifications with Analytics Engineers for technical reports and extracts.
  • Maintains Cogito data models and metadata per governance standards.
  • Integrates data from Epic and non-Epic sources (SQL Server, HRIS, Midas) for analytics.
  • Assists in developing training curricula and user training for reporting tools.
  • Participates in system upgrades, testing, and reporting environment optimization.
  • Ensures data integrity and security for assigned applications.
  • Communicates education plans for deployments, upgrades, and changes.
  • Partners with quality, operational and business leaders on report design to meet needs.

Position Summary

The Cogito Business Analyst (CBA) leads the development of advanced analytics solutions that support clinical, operational, and financial decision-making. This role requires strong proficiency in Epic reporting tools and Power BI, along with ability to manage complex projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. By translating business needs into scalable data products and coordinating efforts between IT, clinical, and administrative stakeholders, the position ensures delivery of high-impact insights that drive organizational performance and strategic outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Epic tools (Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, Radar), and other BI platforms
  • Works with subject matter experts and project application teams to identify the needs of report consumers; prioritizes and implements new reports and change requests
  • Translates complex business requirements into scalable data models and visualizations
  • Uses Reporting Workbench extract framework to build and deliver in-scope extracts
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and Analytics Engineers to design specifications for highly technical report requests and extracts
  • Maintains and enhances Epic Cogito (SlicerDicer) data models and metadata in alignment with governance standards
  • Integrates data from Epic and non-Epic sources (SQL Server, HRIS, Midas, etc.) to support enterprise-wide analytics
  • Assists the principal trainer, if staffed at Kootenai, with developing training curriculum and training power reporting users; directly provides additional end-user training as needed
  • Participates in system upgrades, testing, and optimization of reporting environments
  • Maintains data integrity and security for assigned applications and systems
  • Develops communication related to education efforts for deployments, upgrades, optimizations, and other reporting changes as assigned
  • Partners with quality, operational, and business leaders on report design and optimization to meet quality, safety, financial, and efficiency needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent education/experience required
  • Minimum 3 years of analytics experience required
  • Epic certification or accredited in one or more Epic modules as assigned required
  • Certification to be initiated as directed and completed within 3 months upon completion of Epic training; the employee must remain current in certification or proficiency
  • Epic certification and accreditation in Data Courier Badge, Caboodle Data Model, Cogito Project Manager, Quality Badges, and Cogito Tools Admin preferred
  • Other required system application training/certifications to complete assigned work as necessary
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital and/or clinic setting preferred
  • Participates in after hours on-call, on-call rotation and service recovery efforts as required
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical or business principles to evaluate information system and healthcare regulatory needs
  • Knowledge of Healthcare information systems
