Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environment to lead our efforts and proactively address risks and concerns related to EHS. The EHS Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, implementing safety protocols, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and workplace safety as well meeting or exceeding compliance standards. This role is critical in maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory and manufacturing environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The position will report to the Director - Facilities & Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead safety programs and activities
Serve as the on-site EHS representative
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Provide EHS training to laboratory and manufacturing personnel on hazardous materials handling, waste management, and emergency response procedures.
Monitor and enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other relevant regulations.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.
Oversee hazardous waste disposal, chemical inventory management, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS best practices into daily operations.
Maintain EHS documentation, permits, and regulatory reports. Including tracking and analyzing safety, injury, hazardous statistics, and trends.
Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts, including fire safety, spill containment, and evacuation procedures.
Collaborate with the site landlord to ensure facility compliance with EHS standards and address any safety or environmental concerns related to the building infrastructure.
Serve as the EHS subject matter expert on major capital projects, providing guidance and ensuring compliance with EHS standards throughout project planning and execution.
Coordinate processes and work activities while providing leadership and achieving results by influencing others to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Manage and oversee waste contracts to ensure compliance and cost-effectiveness
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field or commensurate experience and knowledge gained through industry or military service.Certification in Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar is a plus.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in EHS roles within biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, or laboratory environments.Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, and GMP regulations.Experience with hazardous materials handling, waste management, and laboratory safety protocols.Familiar with safety systems and programs, risk analysis and management, emergency response systems, and crisis management procedures.
Skills: Excellent communication and training skills to engage employees in safety initiatives.Ability to analyze data, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective actions.Proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.).
May need to lift more than 50 lbs. Must able to sit and stand for long periods of time.

This job functions in an open office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, calculators, copiers, fax machines, and file cabinets.
This job may require stooping, kneeling or crouching for accessing files in lower cabinets or performing other tasks.
