Great American Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriter Trainee for its Environmental division with a hybrid work model across Exton, PA, Boston, MA, or New York City. This role blends in-office collaboration with remote work to support risk assessment and underwriting activities.

The position targets recent science or engineering graduates with 0–2 years in insurance or environmental consulting, strong communication, and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or related discipline.
• 0–2 years of insurance or environmental consulting experience preferred.
• Strong MS Office skills and comfortable with technology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Participates in risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability per divisional objectives.
• Review, summarize, and interpret environmental reports, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Site Investigations.
• Learn to price business, analyze coverage and maintain relationships with internal/external customers.
• Learn to assess risk quality and compliance within guidelines and initiate loss prevention actions.
• Learn to use independent judgment to support business goals.
• Visit agents/brokers with senior underwriter; retain and develop accounts.
• Learn to interpret, explain, and market products and services.
• Apply underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and insurance laws/regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
