Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Technician to support remediation projects in the Fort Collins area. You will provide daily on-site support for construction, excavation and health and safety across active sites within about an hour to two from Ft.

Collins, Denver, and Greeley. The ideal candidate has strong field supervision experience, heavy equipment familiarity, and a background in environmental cleanup; oil and gas exposure is preferred but remediation work is prioritized.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma and 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency.
  • US citizenship required; sponsorship not available.
  • Pass required drug screening, background check, MVR check and medical surveillance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily field operations for remediation, demolition, excavation, cap placement, trenching and site restoration.
  • Supervise union and non-union equipment operators, laborers, teamsters, drillers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate work sequencing, equipment use and daily production to maintain schedule and quality.
  • Ensure adherence to work plans, construction specs and environmental controls.
  • Oversee system operations, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Direct groundwater sampling programs and support waste characterization and regulatory reporting.
  • Serve as on-site safety representative and enforce safety plans.
  • Maintain daily logs, safety records and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with regulatory inspectors and client representatives during field activities.
  • Communicate progress and issues to project management.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental Technician to support environmental remediation projects for a variety of clients. The Environment Technician will provide daily on-site support for construction, excavation, decommissioning, health and safety, and subcontractor operations across active project sites (within an hour to two hours to Ft. Collins, Denver, and/or Greeley area).

The ideal candidate has a strong background in supervising and managing heavy equipment operations, and directing field crews on complex environmental cleanup projects. Experience with oil and gas is strongly preferred; however, any experience within Environmental Remediation fieldwork will be prioritized.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Site Management & Field Supervision

  • Lead daily field operations for remediation, demolition, excavation, cap placement, trenching, and site restoration activities.
  • Supervise union and non-union equipment operators, laborers, teamsters, drillers, and subcontractors on active project sites.
  • Coordinate work sequencing, equipment use, contractor activities, and daily production goals to maintain schedule and quality.
  • Drive strict adherence to work plans, construction specifications, and environmental controls.

Environmental & Technical Field Oversight

  • Oversee system operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and performance optimization.
  • Manage vapor intrusion mitigation systems at residential locations, ensuring compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct general groundwater sampling programs and support RCRA-related activities, including waste characterization and reporting.
  • Perform miscellaneous maintenance tasks aligned with remediation systems and site infrastructure.
  • Support waste handling, packaging, and disposal logistics, including compliance with regulatory requirements and disposal site criteria.
  • Monitor field conditions, contamination controls, dust suppression, stormwater BMPs, and equipment decontamination zones.

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Serve as an on-site safety representative, enforcing AECOM safety policies and project-specific Health and Safety Plans.
  • Correct unsafe behaviors and conditions immediately and elevate issues to project management when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal (OSHA) and/or state regulatory requirements, as appropriate for the specific job.

Project Planning & Documentation

  • Support development and execution of Field Sampling Plans, QAPPs, SSHPs, and project work plans.
  • Maintain daily logs, production reports, safety records, equipment logs, and subcontractor documentation.
  • Assist in preparing progress reports, regulatory documentation, and closure reports.
  • Coordinate with regulatory inspectors and client representatives during field activities.

Coordination & Communication

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact between subcontractors, project managers, safety staff, and client representatives.
  • Participate in project scheduling, constructability reviews, and planning of field mobilizations/demobilizations.
  • Communicate daily progress, changes, and issues to project management and regulatory partners.
Qualifications
  • HS Diploma and 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Due to the nature of the role US citizenship is required, sponsorship for this role will not be available.
  • Successful candidate will have to pass required drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle records check and medical surveillance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in remediation (O&M experience) or site supervision.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with complex multi-stakeholder field sites.
  • Strong background supervising field crews, subcontractors, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Upstream oil and gas investigation and remediation experience.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Strong understanding of field safety, heavy construction techniques, and environmental controls.
  • Ability to create clear daily logs, field reports, and documentation.
