Job summary

Veolia, in collaboration with Clean Earth, is hiring an Environmental Technician II based in Tacoma, WA. The role focuses on knowing the location and treatment for inbound waste streams and operating on-site equipment such as hi-lo and loaders.

You will complete required paperwork in alignment with Veolia’s practices. Required are at least 2+ years handling hazardous materials, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working with hazardous materials.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to operate equipment including forklift and pallet jack.
  • Visual acuity to read labels; depth perception for safe forklift operation.
  • Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes and alarms.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all climates and indoors in non-climate-controlled areas.
  • Wears PPE including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Complete required paperwork per practices and procedures.
  • Collect samples of inbound waste for compatibility.
  • Unload bulk liquid trucks to the proper tank.
  • Resolve and report issues with inbound loads.
  • Operate hi‑lo and end loaders safely.

Environmental Technician II will be responsible for knowing the location and treatment for inbound waste streams. The Technician will be able to treat and process waste with onsite equipment, including pit mixing, drum pumping, drum dumping, and basic hi-lo and wheel loader skills. The Technician must complete required paperwork in accordance with our practices and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete required paperwork in accordance with our practices and procedures
  • Collect samples of inbound waste for compatibility
  • Unload bulk liquid trucks to the proper tank

  • Operate hi‑lo and end loaders in a safe manner
  • Have knowledge of waste streams and their treatment protocol
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
  • 2+ years of prior experience working with hazardous materials
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Ability to operate equipment, including a forklift and pallet jack
  • Visual acuity to read labels and documentation; depth perception to safely drive forklifts
  • Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes and alarms
  • Ability to work outdoors in all climate conditions and indoors in non-climate‑controlled conditions
  • Willingness and ability to wear company‑issued personal protection equipment, including safety glasses, hard hat, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator
Preferred Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment
  • Basic computer skills to complete web‑based training
  • Ability to understand and respond to written and verbal English
  • Ability to predictably and regularly attend work during scheduled hours; willing and able to occasionally work nights, weekends, and variable schedules as necessary
  • Ability to deal politely and professionally with customers and coworkers
