Job summary

Hudbay in Helvetia, AZ seeks an Environmental Technician to support fieldwork, sampling and environmental programs under the supervision of the Sr. Environmental Scientist.

You will perform sampling across water and soil, monitor compliance at industrial sites, assist with equipment maintenance and data management, and contribute to reports using GIS and GPS tools. The role requires ability to work in teams or alone, strong organization and communication, and willingness to work on varied field

Purpose of Role:

Reporting to the Sr. Environmental Scientist, the Environmental Technician will assist with fieldwork, surveys, sampling and other environmental support functions as needed.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Environmental Sampling & Monitoring:
    • Conduct surface water, groundwater, stormwater, and soil sampling in support of environmental compliance programs and permitting.
    • Execute field survey work to include vegetation, rangeland and spring monitoring; and monitor plant emissions, waste management and process related environmental aspects.
  • Compliance & Inspections:
    • Ensure compliance and assess impacts associated with an industrial processing facility and construction site by conducting field environmental compliance inspections of work areas and job sites, and performing other administrative duties as necessary to meet compliance requirements.
  • Equipment, Controls & Remediation:
    • Assist with calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of automated environmental monitoring equipment, assist with the installation and maintenance of erosion and stormwater pollution controls to comply with regulatory permit requirements, and assist with remedial activities for contaminated soil or water.
  • Data Management & Technology:
    • Use electronic data management and compliance reporting software to handle data collection and entry, QA/QC, records management and preparation of reports, while demonstrating the ability to learn navigation, GPS data collection, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications to locate sampling or survey sites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
  • Ability to operate light vehicles, including UTVs, on trails and off-road terrain.
  • Able to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized with attention to details.
  • Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience, knowledge or education in applied sciences, environmental, or related scientific field preferred.
  • Previous mine site or industrial processing facility experience a plus.
  • Experience with data management and maintaining confidentiality preferred.
