Job Description

AECOM's Disaster Response team is looking for an Environmental Technician in the Los Angeles area to support California wildfire recovery efforts. This position may assist in environmental investigation programs such as environmental drilling investigation, soil, groundwater and soil vapor sampling. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technicians and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The position will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects with a focus on field work including subcontractor coordination. This is a full-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
  • May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.
  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :
  • HS Diploma + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar
  • 2+ year of knowledge/experience in:
  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells
  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures
  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations
  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.
  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others
  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Ability to learn new tasks
  • Flexible and hard working
  • Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
  • Willing to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel

Additional Information
  • Relocation is available for this position.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Project site travel required for this role as needed. (est. up to 75%)

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $24.00/hour - $32.00/hour.
